Concrete work we do

Here's what we pour and cut. Price comes down to size, how much base work your ground needs and the finish, weather sets the schedule, and your written estimate spells out both.

  • We build new concrete driveways for homes, sized and sloped so water runs away from the garage and the slab holds up to your cars every day.

  • Want a spot out back for a grill and a table? We pour concrete patios for homeowners, shaped to your yard and pitched away from the house.

  • Stamped concrete gets pressed with a pattern and colored while it's fresh, so a patio or walk can look like stone or brick without the loose pieces.

  • We build concrete sidewalks and front walks with a broom finish, a light texture that gives your shoes grip when the walk is wet or frosty.

  • Is your garage floor cracked, sunken or pooling water? We break out the old slab and pour a new one on a packed base.

  • Decorative concrete covers color, exposed stone and patterned finishes for homes and businesses that want a slab to look like part of the design.

  • We build concrete retaining walls to hold back a slope, with drainage behind them so water doesn't build up and push on the wall.

  • What's a concrete floor good for? Shops, basements, barns and commercial spaces that need a flat, hard-wearing surface, poured and finished to suit how you'll use it.

  • We pour concrete pool decks with a textured surface for bare feet and a slope that carries splash water away from the pool.

  • Crumbling or uneven front steps? We form and pour new concrete steps with even step heights and a textured top, so coming and going feels steady.

  • A slab foundation is one pour that serves as both footing and floor, for property owners building a new house, garage or shop.

  • We dig, form and pour foundations for new homes, additions and commercial buildings, so the walls above start square, level and on solid ground.

  • Business owners and property managers call us for concrete parking lots built to take daily traffic and drain where they should, not toward the building.

  • Footings are the wide concrete base under a wall, post or deck that spreads its weight, and we dig and pour them for homeowners and builders.

  • When part of a foundation has sunk and doors stick or cracks open, we lift it back toward level and fill the gap underneath so it's supported again.

  • Need an opening, a trench for a line or a broken section taken out? We saw-cut concrete cleanly so the rest of the slab stays whole.

    A written estimate

  3. Permit, prep and pour

If the job needs a permit, we handle it with the city and start once it's issued. On pour day, forms and base are set and checked before the truck arrives.

  4. Finish and protect

From there the concrete sets the pace for finishing and protecting it, not us, and I'll tell you when it's ready for foot traffic and for cars.

    Concrete ready to use

Prep first, then the pour

I spent my twenties working the line in restaurant kitchens before a friend put a finishing trowel in my hand on his crew here in Rock Springs, and I started our own concrete business in 2017. The kitchen taught me prep, timing and how to stay calm when things move fast. Concrete asks for all three.

We're best known for flatwork, the flat pours like driveways, patios, garage floors and steps, planned all the way through before the truck shows up. Homeowners call us most, along with property owners who need footings, foundations or a lot poured.

Our crew does the work with me on site, so the person who planned your job is standing there when it's poured. We're based in Rock Springs and work in Green River and the cities around it. If you want the longer version, there's more about us and how we got here.

Before you hire

A few straight answers on what you'll be weighing before anyone pours, from where your money goes to the questions worth asking any concrete contractor, us included.

  • Where to spend, where to save

The subgrade, what a slab sits on, is hidden and often the first budget cut. Trim the finish instead, since a nice top can't save a settling slab.

  • Repair or replace the slab

Hairline cracks in a flat, solid slab usually aren't worth tearing out. When it's sunk, uneven or pooling water, the trouble is underneath, and replacing usually makes more sense.

  • Picking a finish

A broom finish is plain and grippy, which counts on icy mornings. Stamped and colored concrete cost more and need resealing, so put them where you'll see them most.

  • Questions to ask any contractor

Ask how they'll prep the base, where water will run and when they'll cut control joints, the grooves that tell cracks where to go. Vague answers are a warning.

How we treat your place in Rock Springs

If the forecast is wrong for a pour, I'd rather move the date than rush concrete into bad weather, and I'll tell you why. Midday heat and a hard freeze both cost a slab strength you can't get back, and a day's wait costs a lot less than a weak, dusty top a year from now.

You'll know the plan before we start, including the mix, the timing and how we'll keep fresh concrete from freezing if it turns cold. On site, we keep to the area we're working, protect what's around it and clean up before we leave.

Satisfaction guaranteed on every job, and you'll hear the reason for each step before we take it.

Questions we hear most

Straight answers to what people ask before a pour, from cost and timing to permits and frost depth in Rock Springs, so you can decide with the facts in hand.

How much does a new concrete driveway cost in Rock Springs?

It depends on your driveway, so I give you a written price after I've walked the site and looked at the ground. Size and thickness move it most, and so does hauling out an old slab or building up a soft base. The estimate is free, so it costs nothing to find out.

Do you charge for concrete estimates?

No, estimates are free, done on site and come with no obligation. I walk the job with you and put the numbers in writing, so you can set it next to any other bid and compare what each one includes.

How long until I can drive on a new concrete driveway?

You can walk on it well before you can drive on it, and I'll give you both dates for your pour because curing, the slow hardening that gives concrete its strength, depends on the weather. Cold slows it down, which is why we plan how to keep fresh concrete from freezing. Driving on it early is the quickest way to crack a new driveway.

Do concrete contractors have to register with the City of Rock Springs?

Yes, any contractor, subcontractor or builder has to register with the city before starting work, and registered contractors meet the city's occupational licensing rules. Registration also means a certificate of insurance on file, with at least $100,000 for injury to one person, $250,000 for more than one and $100,000 for property damage. Rock Springs Concrete is licensed and fully insured.

Do I need a permit for concrete work in Rock Springs?

It depends on the job, and the city's Building Official issues permits to build, alter or repair a structure or to excavate a lot. When you hire a contractor, getting the right permit is the contractor's job, so when yours needs one, we handle the paperwork and start once it's issued. Starting permit work without one can bring an investigation fee equal to the permit fee, and at least $250.

Do you guarantee your concrete work?

Yes, it's satisfaction guaranteed on every job. I'm on site with the crew, so if something doesn't look right to you, you can raise it right there with the person who planned the job.

Will my new concrete crack like my old slab did?

Concrete can still crack, but most of the bad cracking we see on old slabs comes from a soft base, water running the wrong way or joints cut late or skipped. We dig out and pack the base, check where water runs and cut control joints on time, and rebar, steel set inside the slab, helps hold pieces together if it does crack.

How deep do footings need to be in Rock Springs, WY?

Under the city's residential code, footings and foundations have to go below the frost line, which the city sets at 42 inches below finished grade. New homes also need an open hole soil inspection by a state-licensed engineer unless the Building Official asks for a full soils report. Parts of the city sit over old coal mines, and properties identified as subsidence-prone, ground that may sink over mine workings, need foundations built to University of Wyoming specifications.
